Mark Cuban’s a genius right? Invented Broadcast.com and all that. I went in to journalism, so that proves I’m dumb. But here’s what I don’t get. Sports Illustrated just released its Fortunate 50, a list of the 50 richest stars in sports, and Cuban’s got two players in the top 25. Dirk and Josh Howard, perhaps? Nah. (Dirk’s on another list, The International 20, where he ranks 18.) Try Michael Finley (No. 21) and Jason Kidd (No. 24). Nice.
Cubes paid Finley $18.6 million this year for his stellar performance with the San Antonio Spurs, and he’ll be paying Kidd $21.4 million next year, all of which adds up to the NBA’s most bloated payroll and a team that will be lucky to make the playoffs next year. –Jesse Hyde
