Assistant City Manager Jill Jordan
At the end of May, Assistant City Manager Jill Jordan more or less told Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle how to do his job, which is odd, since she’s in charge of “Staff Accountability” for the city and chose not to hold one of the chief’s staff accountable for faking job descriptions on tickets doled out to the homeless. Kunkle gave Sgt. Walter Clifton a five-day suspension for what the chief considered serious misconduct — only to have his ruling overturned by Jordan, who gave Clifton the punishment of … counseling. And, she noted, “My decision in this matter is non-appealable.”
Or is it? Because at the very bottom of tomorrow’s city council briefing agenda, among the items to be discussed behind closed doors, is this very intriguing mention: “Personnel issues regarding the Chief of Police and an Assistant City Manager.” How very not vague. –Robert Wilonsky
