The Texas Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment — or TRIAD, as it prefers to be called — announced this morning that it’s awarding more than $1.6 million in grants to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families living in the area. According to the release from the Army, “TRIAD established five funding priorities — mental and physical health care, emergency assistance, Family reintegration, job training and employment, and youth services — based on surveys of Texas National Guard and Army Reserve Soldiers and their families.”
Among the nonprofits to which TRIAD and the Dallas Foundation are donating the dough: the National Organization on Disability, for a locally based pilot program that will provide free job training and employment for “the Army’s most severely wounded veterans in the Dallas-Fort Worth area”; the Metroplex Military Charitable Trust, which will “fund three wheelchair vans to transport wounded Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to outpatient treatment at the Dallas Department of Veterans Affairs Polytrauma Unit”; and Operation Homefront — Texas. –Robert Wilonsky
