A Dallas family makes the cover of the new Fortune: Lindsay and Zach Mayer, among those singled out as the “high earners, not rich yet” — or HENRYs, get it? — who would vehemently dispute the notion that just because you make more than $250,000, you’re wealthy and ought to pay higher taxes. Because the Mayers — Zach’s an attorney; Lindsay’s a senior manager at Avaya — “feel stretched on $500,000 a year,” note writers Shawn Tully with Joan Caplin, who acknowledge that while “it’s hard to weep for families that earn more than 98% of American households,” the HENRYs are getting “getting a bad rap from those who lump them in with America’s conspicuously wealthy.”
