Brett Hull may be the Dallas Stars’ Ambassador of Fun. But, as you well know, I’m the Dallas Stars’ Bearer of Good News and Positivity and Stuff. So, in an effort to placate fans I seemed to have awoken — dare I say, pissed off? — with this little diddy, I strap on the skates and put two biscuits in the basket.

First, the Stars made a trade today. I think it’s some nobody and a draft pick in exchange for the Phoenix Coyotes’ leading scorer, but what do I know? Ladislav for Tjarnqvist. And y’all wonder why hockey is falling off the map?

In more good news, backup goalie Mike Smith was today named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week. Seems in three games last week Smith went 3-0-0 and produced a career-high 131:06 shutout streak. The good news: Smith received a two-year contract extension last week, a deal worth $1.9 million. The bad news: Must mean my man Marty Turco is in playoff form midway through the season. So there, puckheads, call it even? –Richie Whitt
