Good God, that Antonio Swad is a genius. After making a small fortune selling pizza for pesos, the Pizza Patrón founder is at it again: Beginning Friday, his 65-store pizza chain will begin selling unlimited calling cards to Mexico, which means, according to the press release: “Unlike traditional calling cards which charge by the minute, these new cards allow unlimited calling to any area code in Mexico with no additional charges or penalties.”
Says Swad of the cards, which will come in three denominations, “When I heard that we could help reconnect families and help mend broken hearts for as little as a dollar a day, I knew we were on to something really special. It’s the kind of thing that a Patron would bring to his people, so we are doing it.” And, yup, they’re available for purchase using pesos. Word is Farmers Branch civil rights activist Tim O’Hare‘s a major investor. Or not. –Robert Wilonsky
