Independent Journalism in Dallas Needs You
We need to raise $12,500 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Philadelphia experimental sax man and poet Elliott Levin had to cancel his Annex House show last month, but the brothers Gonzalez aren’t going to leave fans hanging.
Tonight, the Elliott Levin Trio–consisting of Levin with Stefan Gonzalez on drums and Aaron Gonzalez on bass–will make up the canceled gig and “decimate your soul,” Aaron promises via MySpace bulletin, at the Phoenix Project at 406 S. Haskell.
The Gonzalez brothers play together as grindcore duo Akkolyte as well as with their father, Dennis, in the improv-jazz trio Yells At Eels. The flyer above promises “special guests,” so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the elder Gonzalez guest on a song or two. But seeing as how the brothers have shared stages with just about everyone who’s anyone in the local hardcore, jazz, improv and experimental scenes, there’s no telling who else might show up.
Kenny Withrow’s The Tidbits also perform, making this a can’t-miss for fans of experimental music, with or without the beatnik poetry.
Doors open at 8 p.m., show costs $5 and the show is all-ages.
