There’s really no legitimate reason to ever carry an ice pick in Dallas. That rule applies year-round (ice comes in cubes nowadays), but it’s particularly true in late May, when temps dip to a not-quite-frigid 75 degrees.
That point was driven home in extremely painful fashion early this morning at a South Dallas gas station. Andrew Alexander, a 52-year-old Dallas man, was pumping gas at the Texaco at Dolphin Road and Haskell Avenue at 4 a.m. Tuesday when two men approached. One was carrying an ice pick and proceeded to stab him three times in the shoulder. They took Alexander’s $25 and ran away.
Alexander called his fiancee, who drove him to Baylor, where he was treated for his wounds and interviewed by police. He couldn’t give them much beyond the fact that they were black men and that they’d stabbed him with an ice pick. He was pretty sure about the ice pick.
