Soul music legend Bobby Patterson will headline our Music Awards August 14 at the Granada. You miss this, you miss everything.

Because, see, when Jim Schutze gets pissed off at Wick Allison or Tim Rogers over at FrontBurner, he posts to Unfair Park. But when our current music editor takes issue with something written by our former music editor, she just sends him an e-mail, which makes it onto FrontBurner. And, look, we need all the posts and links we can get, Jonanna. Just a note for future reference.

But speaking of the Dallas Observer Music Awards showcase, which we are, the August 14 shindig at the Granada Theater will prove to be a don’t-miss doozy, if we do say so our damned selves. It’ll feature some of the best from the current Dallas scene paying homage to the best of Dallas’ musical past: Don Cento and Shibboleth — our MGs — will be joined by the likes of Salim Nourallah, PPT, Chris Holt, Jen Nabb, Shanghai 5’s Amy Curnow, Sorta, Paul Slavens and Very Special Guest Bobby Patterson will perform songs made famous by the likes of Aaron “T-Bone” Walker, the Five Americans, Boz Scaggs, the D.O.C., the Nervebreakers, Steve Miller, Meat Loaf, Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians and many, many other surprise-surprise-surprises.

And, you’d best believe it, the concert and awards show will be free — gratis, baby. All you need is a ticket or wristband — so keep your eyes peeled, when on Monday we tell you where to pick up your Golden Ducat for what promises to be a magical musical moment. –Robert Wilonsky
