I am sure that if Jim Schutze were not on vacation, he would want to comment on at least one particular section of Bruce Tomaso’s piece today about how much dough The Trinity Commons Foundation has raised to Sink the Petition! Save the Trinity! I point you specifically to the part of the story detailing how much money Irving-based JPI Multifamily Investments has given ($20,000) to keep the toll road a toll road:

In 2006, The News reported that JPI had bought land near where a dazzling new bridge, designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, is to cross the river at Woodall Rodgers Freeway. JPI officials were quoted as saying that they planned to build apartments there.

Pardon, but … “dazzling”? Troubled, sure. Besieged, yup. But dazzling? Say, who dipped their architecture criticism into my news story? The first bridge is due to be finished in July 2009; we’ll save the rave till then. –Robert Wilonsky
