Many congratulations this week to the folks at KHYI-95.3 FM The Range, who, over the weekend, earned themselves some hardware to hang up around the office, courtesy of the people behind the Academy of Texas Music.
The academy announced the winners for its annual Texas Music Awards on Saturday, and, in the process of doing so, it named KHYI as the Best Broadcast Radio Station, and the station’s flagship DJ, Brett Dillon, as the Best Disc Jockey.
It’s the second time that The Range has won the Best Station title in the awards’ nine-year history. The station also won the same award in 2009.
But, for Dillon, who was recently profiled in the documentary film, Hey Dillon (The Last Great DJ), the deserved nod comes as his first ever award — for anything.
“I’ve been in radio since 1975 and never have won an award,” a flabbergasted Dillon posted to his Facebook page on Saturday. “A huge, heartfelt thank you to all. It feels
good!”
