Yesterday, Ed Bark had big news for those who continue to wonder what in the hell KXAS-Channel 5 was thinking when the NBC affiliate opted not to renew meteorologist Rebecca Miller’s contract back in March: She’s going to sub on KDAF-Channel 33‘s 9 p.m. newscasts Thursdays and Fridays, beginning tonight. Which is so totally burying the lead, because contained in the same item there’s bigger news for those of us who continue to marvel at Ed’s interest in, knowledge of and love for local television doings: Since the weekend, Uncle Barky’s had unspecified “health problems” that have gotten “progressively worse,” resulting in a “procedure” today that, Ed writes, “may determine what’s going on health-wise.”

So if you’ve the time and inclination this morning, drop Ed a note or send him one of these (or this one, specifically, because he will appreciate it). That said, the nicest man in the history of Dallas media insists his October 4 date with Mark Cuban at Stratos is still a go. Alas, the best thing about bed rest: Ed can now spend his down time watching television. –Robert Wilonsky
