Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins is heading to Houston, to help former Houston Police Department chief C.O. “Brad” Bradford raise some dough in his bid to become the Harris County District Attorney. And he’s bringing from friends, says the Houston Chronicle: former Dallas mayor Ron Kirk and State Sen. Royce West, among other prominent state Democrats. And, notes the Chron‘s politics blog, it’s not being billed as a fund-raiser — though, really, it probably is. Also noted on the invite: “Craig is the first African American district attorney elected in the state of Texas.” Writes Alan Bernstein, Bradford wants to be the second. –Robert Wilonsky
