Last night, my father and I got to talking about Deep Ellum (where our family’s auto parts store was from 1932 to 1955), Fair Park (where the store’s been ever since) and South Dallas (Dad was born on Park Row in 1944) — all the hot topics, in other words. Dad’s in a deep funk over the state and fate of things down there.
“If you start at the top and get down to the lowest guy on the totem pole at City Hall, it’s all their faults,” Dad said.
Then we got to talking about mayoral candidates. Dad said he got a call from Tom Leppert’s campaign yesterday. Dad said he told ’em thanks but no thanks and hung up. I asked why, since Leppert seemed, ya know, affable, maybe?
“‘Cause every time I vote for one of them assholes, they wind up turnin’ into dickheads,” Dad said.
