A few minutes ago, the University of Texas at Dallas posted word that over the weekend, one of its programmers made a tiny boo-boo that allowed students to peek at each other’s very private information — such as, their names, “addresses, class schedules, Net identification, UT Dallas ID numbers, and tuition and fees charged for the upcoming semester.” The info’s supposed to be available only to “a specific group of University employees,” not, ya know, everyone else. Notes UTD, “No payment records or histories were viewable. No credit card numbers or other personal financial account numbers were viewable. No Social Security numbers were viewable.” The error was fixed this morning, but if you’re a UTD student who worries you’ve been violated, the university does suggest filing a fraud alert.
