Listen: We’ve done our fair share of Forever The Sickest Kids dogging here at DC9 over the past 12 months or so–sometimes for good reason, and sometimes because, well, we were just bored.
But, fact of the matter is, these guys had themselves a hell of a year: They released their debut, Underdog Alma Mater, to a pretty warm reception from the Hot Topic set; their song “Woah Oh! (Me Vs. Everyone)” was a pretty moderate radio hit; they hit up the Warped Tour; were featured almost weekly, it seems, in the Alternative Press; their song was placed on The Hills; and they performed on Conan.
So, it really shouldn’t come as a surprise at all then, that someone would include FTSK in some sort of year-end list. Who was it? This Toronto-based music blog, called AWMusic, which has named Underdog Alma Mater the third-best power pop record of the year, calling the disc “a perfect example of what power pop means”.
Well, how ’bout that? More power to them. —Pete Freedman
