At 4 a.m. on Tuesday, two men drove a few blocks in a bulldozer to
the Walgreens on 1306 N Beckley Avenue. They backed it up, and then rammed the ‘dozer into a side wall, sending hundreds of goods
flying off the shelves and creating a cloud of dust. See for yourself after the jump — we’ve got two videos from different angles. According to the sole witness, who was sitting across the street and saw the whole
incident, after the men broke through the wall, they ran away on foot.
In the video, you see only one of the suspects for a few seconds.
Police guess the blaring alarms scared away the men who left
empty-handed.
Apparently, this particular brand of smash-and-grab is turning into a trend: Police warn that such “ATM bucket
raids” are on the rise. According to the media alert,
“a bucket raid is where suspects steal construction equipment and use
that equipment to force entry into a hardened target or use it to break
free a drive-thru ATM that has been anchored to the ground.” Dallas police spokesman Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse estimates there have been “about a half dozen in
the last few months,” and that such robberies are becoming more
common. So, be warned: If you see heavy machinery on the move at night,
get out of the way. And call the cops.
