A Ginormous Movie Studio in Frisco? Maybe.

The Dallas Business Journal this morning brings news of a $1-billion, 1-million-square-foot movie and teevee production facility being planned in Frisco, near the Dallas North Tollway and Warren Parkway. And that’s not all: According to Premier Studios’ elaborate website, filled with conceptual renderings and site plans and build-out phases and stages, the production facility — which would have 12 sound stages of varying sizes and a “5 story executive center, a 400 seat Theater, a 100 tract Recording Studio, State of the are Editing Suites and the latest Camera, Lighting, and Audio equipment” — is but one piece of a puzzle also said to include a 300-room, 100-suite “World Class HKS european designed Hotel,” several restaurants, a bank, a shopping center and, but of course, a Texaco-McDonald’s (!).

Right now, says the DBJ, it’s way more conceptual than actual; the man behind it doesn’t say much, “citing ongoing discussions.” Local and state film officials ain’t sure what’s what. I asked Dallas Film Commissioner Janis Burklund for her thoughts this morning. She tells Unfair Park she doesn’t know “a lot” about the deal — and she’s know about it for more than a year.

“They contacted me over a year ago, then I didn’t hear from them for a long time,” she says. She adds that she did speak with Premier founder and CEO Jerry Roy earlier this week and told him a facility like this is awful big given the normal needs of studios and networks that  shoot here. She says she was told they were “counting on using it for their own projects,” and that outside rentals would be gravy.

Says The Weitzman Group-er marketing the property, “I feel better than 50/50 that the deal is going to make.” Me, I’m just a sucker for conceptual renderings.
