This week The Procedure, a short film made with Dallas talent, won the Short Film Jury Award for U.S. Fiction at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
A man is abducted and forced to endure a strange experiment. Any other details about the plot would spoil it. The subject matter may sound creepy and there are elements of horror and science fiction, but the film is actually very funny. It’s also very strange. The Procedure makes you wonder how people come up with this stuff. It is built with clever scenes and a dark sense of humor. And it rewards repeat viewings.
The film competed with over 8,000 submissions for 7 awards. At 4 minutes, it was the shortest film screened.
Director and screenwriter Calvin Lee Reeder’s previous films, The Oregonian and The Rambler, have screened at the Dallas International Film Festival. From Dallas, Scott Honea was one of the producers of The Procedure; he is also a composer and screenwriter. Frank Mosley, a veteran of independent films, stars in the film. From Arlington, Mosley is also a director, writer and producer with nearly 70 film credits.

The Procedure is part of a trio of shorts shot near Seattle last year. This week another film from that batch, The Bulb, actually screened at the Slamdance Film Festival, which takes place in Park City at the same time as Sundance.
