All the Way From Calcutta, India, Mother Teresa’s Relics to Make Stop in Dallas

In recent days, newspapers in the Midwest and Northeast have been filled with accounts of churches packed with worshipers who’ve come to visit the relics of Mother Teresa — among them, a lock of her hair, her tattered sandals, her rosary, even a vial filled with drops of her blood. From the Chicago Sun-Times‘ account over the weekend: “Maria Balderas, who shook hands with Mother Teresa the last time she visited St. Procopius in 1986, said she felt ‘light’ after touching and kissing the nun’s relics.”

Her personal effects are making the rounds courtesy the Missionaries of Charity, who put together the U.S. tour to celebrate Mother Teresa’s 100th birthday. Today comes word that the tour will stop in Dallas on July 27 at Saint James Catholic Church on East Saner Avenue. I called the church to confirm, and the woman who answered the phone said, yes, that’s true, and they found out about the stop only last week: “And we are getting prepared for a large crowd.”
