They’re an indie rock band that just about every music fan in western civilization has heard of. But 10 years ago, The Polyphonic Spree had only played three shows.
In this edition of This Week In Dallas Music History, music writer Jessica Parker introduces Dallas Observer readers to the new brainchild of former Tripping Daisy frontman Tim DeLaughter, who felt confined to the rock-band format of his previous band.
“You’re kind of limited on guitar, bass, and drums,” DeLaughter begins. “When you go into this world and improvise, it just opens up this fountain of other ways to look at and play music.”
The result of DeLaughter’s experimentation? A 10-song orchestral demo titled The Beginning Stages. Check out the entire article after the jump.
