We always appreciate it when visual artists and musicians collaborate, whether it’s by putting on a big event, holding a concert in a gallery or museum, or complementing live music with interesting visuals. But we don’t want to overlook the smaller ways in which visual artists and musicians work together, or the visual artwork created by the musicians themselves. That’s why we’re highlighting show flyers in this weekly feature.
This week’s decision was tougher than usual. Flyers from Parade of Flesh (for The Strange Boys at Club Dada), Spune (Grand Ole Party at The Cavern) and New Science Projects really caught my attention.
But I especially enjoyed Sekrit Aprikot’s poster by NotWolf for next week’s Chris Flemmons and The Diamond Age show at Wine2 in Denton. Though the text isn’t the most readable in the world, there’s something appealing about the bright green lawn, the filthy tennis ball and the old golden retriever trotting toward the camera. —Jesse Hughey
[Editor’s Note: I think Jesse’s insane with his choice here. This poster for The Strange Boys’ show is pretty much amazing. Shoulda walked away with the title this week, really.]
