Through the years, Dallas has heard the name of legendary restauranteur Gene Street time and time again. (Ahem … Black Eyed Pea, Snookie’s, Liberty Burger, Good Eats, etc.) Luckily, the restaurant industry runs in the family. Recently opened Street’s Fine Chicken is owned by one of Gene’s sons, run by a nephew and Gene himself just happens to be the landlord.
If that all wasn’t confusing enough, let’s add a cocktail to it. The bar menu at Street’s Fine Chicken offers jauntily-named twists on some classic cocktails that keep it simple but do it well. Jump right in with their whiskey smash, dubbed the Full Nelson. They subbed the traditional smash’s club soda for ginger beer to give it a slight bite.
Try this simple recipe at home, or avoid the chance of staining your shirt with blackberry juice by visiting Street’s Fine Chicken for the full Full Nelson.
FULL NELSON
4 blackberries
2 oz. bourbon
1/2 oz. mint-infused simple syrup
6 oz. ginger beer
Muddle the blackberries in a low ball glass. Fill glass with ice and pour whiskey and simple syrup over ice. Top with ginger beer, then stir and garnish with a sprig of mint.
