Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.
Sushi Robata is a mainstay of North Dallas dining, a rock-solid Japanese restaurant where just about everything on the menu is reliably good-to-great. It’s hard not to love the sushi rolls, and they also serve some of the best ramen bowls in the region.
Go with tonkotsu ramen, with pork bone broth, or shoyu ramen, a broth based on soy and often chicken or vegetables. Either one is a potent reminder of why ramen is an “in” food right now: savory riches, held in careful balance, not overly salty but with serious character. Eat the smoky pork slice before the soup cooks it past medium, then treasure the al dente noodles, always perfectly cooked.
For those used to cheap plastic cups, Sushi Robata is a great introduction to real ramen. But even for experts, and even in a metroplex where the ramen fad continues to go wild, these bowls are among the very best.
