Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.
Let’s address the big news first: El Come Taco has a bar now. They just finished adding the ample and, naturally, Mexico-focused liquor collection behind the cash register and tell us that a cocktail menu will be rolled out very soon. That means this small Fitzhugh Avenue shop will soon be one of the best places in the city to get both great Mex-Mex street-style tacos and a shot of premium tequila.
On one recent weekend, the good folks at El Come Taco were testing a new special, cochinita pibil tacos. Cochinita pibil is a slow-cooked pork dish in which citrus juices help tenderize the pork; distinctively orange and gently spicy, it’s a taco topping that requires almost no garnishes, bells or whistles. Here, pickled onions are the only addition.
The plate comes served with refried beans, proving this shop can make more than just tacos.
