John Congleton is a name you’ve long associated with his roles as a producer and as the leader of The Paper Chase. But be ready to hear more from his new band, The Nighty Nite, in the coming months.

As the band, which also features Jason Garner of the final Paper Chase lineup on drums, prepares to release its debut EP, we just had to ask Congleton about some of his first show experiences. The guy must have seen some great stuff in all of his years playing his heart out on the stage and recording bands in the studio. Right?

Well, yeah.

But, whatever you think of Congleton as a performer, you might be surprised to hear who he saw for his first ever show. After the jump Congleton shared with us that information, as well as his first show memories with The Paper Chase and The Nighty Nite as well.

What was the first show you remember seeing?
Chuck Berry when I was five or six. I loved Chuck Berry when I was a kid.

What was the first show you remember paying to see?

Yikes. I don’t think I really remember. The first local band I was
obsessed with was Brutal Juice, though. I probably paid to see them about
75 times.

What can you remember about the first Paper Chase show?
We played out in a parking lot in 1999. It was around 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Super sunny, but sounding terrible. We sucked. [Laughs.]

How did the first Nighty Nite show go? Will anything be different for the first Dallas show?
We are on show number nine or 10 right now. The first show was rough, but I have some
great dudes playing with me. We are getting more and more comfortable
with each show.
