It’s been some time since DC9 last checked out Film School in a live setting. But, in our defense, it’s also been some time since the shoegaze-y San Franciscoans released any new material–three years, in fact.

That much got remedied late last month, though, when the band released Fissions, its first album release since 2007’s Hideout. The new disc’s kind of a poppier affair from the five-piece, and while different, it’s something of a welcome difference, too. Film School’s problem in the past has been its lack of variety. Fissions is kind of an answer to that concern.

Whether it’s the right answer, well, we’ll leave that up for you to decide. The folks at Parade of Flesh, who are bringing the band to town to perform at The Nightmare tonight have been kind enough to pass along a free pair of tickets to tonight’s show. Want the passes? OK: Be the first to email me starting right now with the words “Film Snob” in the subject line and they’re yours. Good luck!

Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winner!
