Seryn just keeps getting more and more and more and more love from the national media these days. Last week, it came once again courtesy of the folks at Paste, whose editor-in-chief and co-founder, Josh Jackson, just can’t get enough of those inspiring kids from Denton. After already naming the band as his favorite act at SXSW back in March, Jackson has now further elevated the band by honoring them with the online-only rag‘s recurring “Best of What’s Next” feature.
Writes Jackson of the young five-piece: “Seryn’s live presence–with each member swapping instruments and all five singing choruses at the top of their lung–can best be described as ‘joyful.'” Indeed.
Now, though, other outlets are catching on. This week, Magnet featured the band in its own recurring Magnet Mixtape feature — an honor previously bestowed upon fellow locals Sarah Jaffe, Doug Burr, The Orbans and Crushed Stars — in which the band is given the chance to share some of its influences.
Among the acts mentioned by Seryn in the feature? The aforementioned Burr. See what Seryn Frontman Trenton Wheeler had to say about his band’s Spune labelmate after the jump.

We also had the pleasure of recording our album with Britton Beisenherz, who engineered The Shawl. This song is haunting, like much of Doug’s work, and it gives you just enough of the crescendo to leave you wanting more. Continue reading…
