The indie icon is known for canceling or walking out on his shows. This time, however, it's pretty understandable.

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has a long history of canceling Dallas shows, having blown off the city five times between 2004 and 2016 with reasons ranging from health issues to “mismanagement of tour funds.”

He has also been known to abandon his shows due to concerns about preserving his voice, after confrontations with fans and, most notoriously, over the smell of meat.

The indie icon did make it to the Fair Park Music Hall stage on Saturday and treated fans to classic Smiths songs such as “How Soon Is Now” and “Shoplifters of the World Unite” and solo hits including “Everyday Is Like Sunday.”

During the encore performance of “First of the Gang to Die,” however, the show was cut short mid-song. And this time, it wasn’t Moz’s fault.

During the encore, a fan made it onstage and rushed to embrace Morrissey. Security was able to get the fan offstage without much trouble, but as more fans jumped onstage and swarmed the 65-year-old singer, the situation spiraled out of control.

One security guard was reportedly injured, and Morrissey was rushed offstage to safety.

The reactions on social media have been mixed. While some older fans say the “mania” reminded them of wild concerts from their youth, others expressed concern for Morrissey’s safety or quipped that the last thing the singer needed was an excuse to leave the stage.

Others pointed out that a similar stage rush happened at a Dallas concert in 1992. And we wonder why he keeps canceling on us.
