Texas Monthly hosts a trove of events throughout the year, including Taco Fest every summer and BBQ Fest every fall in Lockhart. This Saturday, Sept. 27, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., the Texas magazine will host a new event at Epic Central in Grand Prairie for foodies that will bring some of the state’s best barbecue closer to North Texas: the BBQ Family Reunion. For some, it’s like BBQ Fest, but better.

The Smokin’ Hot Line Up

Eight heavy-hitting barbecue joints from across the state are coming to Grand Prairie: Blood Bros. BBQ, Feges BBQ and Gatlin’s BBQ all from Houston; Hurtado Barbecue and Pecan Lodge from Dallas; PODY’S BBQ from Pecos; Stanley’s Famous Pit BBQ from Tyler and Tyler’s Barbeque from Amarillo.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.

Editor's Picks

For those who keep a barbecue Bingo card, Blood Bros., Feges, Hurtado and Stanley’s all received an honorable mention from Texas Monthly’s barbecue editor, Daniel Vaughn, for his 2025 roundup of the best barbecue around the state.

These joints are slinging the cue for a smaller, more intimate crowd than the larger festivals, like in Lockhart. And lucky for us, the weather has decided to cooperate; by start time at 6 p.m,. the temps will be cooling down from a high of only 90 degrees that day. The low is 63 Saturday evening — perfect for the meat sweats.

The BBQ Family Reunion celebrates the homecoming season and has four different ticket tiers to access the event. Tickets are good for all the barbecue vendors at the event, two steppin’ and a night under the stars.

General admission tickets are $100 per person and include all the food offered from all eight barbecue spots at the event while supplies last. Kids (6-12 years old) tickets cost $30.

The best value is the general admission family pack: four tickets good for two adults and two kids for $230. There is a VIP ticket option, but at the time of writing this, they’re sold out. All ticket prices don’t include taxes and fees.

Buy tickets on the Texas Monthly BBQ Family Reunion event website.
