Bad Company finally gets their first-ever tribute album they deserve before their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The 1970s hard rock band released Can’t Get Enough: A Tribute to Bad Company on Friday, Oct. 24. The 10-track album has contemporary names and legends who appear, such as HARDY, The Pretty Reckless, Joe Elliott and Phil Collen from Def Leppard, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, Charley Crockett, Halestorm, The Struts and more.
Founded in 1973, Bad Company features lead vocalist Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs, bassist Boz Burrell and drummer Simon Kirke. Rodgers and Kirke contribute to three of the songs, bringing the tribute full circle to be able to play with artists they’ve directly influenced, even to this day.
While speaking with Forbes an interview published on Sunday, Kirke told the publication he was honored and proud that these artists were covering their songs.
“The fact that relative youngsters — and anyone under 40 is a youngster to me – wants to cover our songs is a wonderful tribute,” says Kirke. “I’ve heard some of them, and I’m going, ‘Wow, yeah, they put their own spin on it.’ It’s wonderful that the younger generation has picked up the baton, as it were, and is now running with it. So great.”
In selecting the artists and songs, Kirke spoke about their sonic influence and why these artists were representative of their stylistic range of rock, country, and Americana.
“Quite honestly, every generation will have its anti-establishment,” Kirke explains. “There’ll always be rock and roll. Because if your parents don’t like it, it’s great. It’s perfect. So that’s why rock and roll has been around since the ’50s. Now we have these ladies and guys who are in their 20s and 30s and they like our music enough. We have influenced them as the Beatles influenced me or Black music, soul music and the blues influenced me and Paul. It’s just another form of influence. I’m just so happy to be involved in this project.”
Back in September, Crockett shared his cover for “Bad Company.” When the song was released, he shared a personal note about what the band meant to him.
“I remember Bad Company coming on the classic rock stations in Texas when I was a kid. I’d always crank the volume anytime this one came up. I still do. ‘Destiny is a rising sun.’ I’d hear those lyrics and dream of doing more with my life. Why Paul Rodgers and company asked me to do this one, I’ll never know, but it couldn’t have been better timing for me. It’s an untouchable and timeless classic. The song means a whole lot more now to me as a lifetime entertainer. Congratulations to Bad Company on 50 years and their well-deserved induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. ‘Six-gun sound is our claim to fame.’ You damn right,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Bad Company will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden and The White Stripes. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
