Grandscape continues to grow and is about to get a breezy and boozy new tenant. The Rustic is two-stepping into the old Lava Cantina space (5805 Grandscape Blvd.) with local musicians, wood-grilled dishes and a space rooted in Texas hospitality.
The Americana concept originally opened in 2013 in Uptown. It was developed by FreeRange Concepts (Mutt’s Cantina, Joe Leo), which is co-owned by Kyle Noonan and Josh Sepkowitz, in collaboration with Texas country singer Pat Green.
When the newest location in The Colony opens, it will be The Rustic’s second location in North Texas and its fifth in Texas. The brand is also slated to open two more locations in Scottsdale and California soon.
“The Rustic is a natural addition to Grandscape because it brings together everything our destination is built on — great food, live entertainment and a strong sense of community,” vice president of Grandscape Ryan Blumkin says. “This venue enhances our live music offering and gives guests another reason to stay longer, gather together and experience something memorable every time they visit.”
Sepkowitz said in a release that they want people to feel as if they’ve stepped into a neighborhood tradition on their first visit. The food and drink will take their usual local-first cues with Texas beers behind the bar and southern-flavored dishes.
They may not be serving Rocky Mountain oysters (calf testicles) like they did when they originally opened, but they will have wild boar chili, beer-can game hen with jalapeño spoon bread and barbecue butter and cactus fries.
From the start, The Rustic has always had a food-first approach at their concepts, so many will come for the food and stay for the music, and vice versa.
At this new venue, The Rustic will bring its live music culture into the area’s busiest entertainment district. Andretti Indoor Karting, the COSM, and Fireside Surf are just a few of the neighbors in the area. The Rustic is a natural fit.
The Rustic at Grandscape will open this summer with wood-grilled, made-from-scratch dishes, a daily happy hour, family-style brunch on the weekends and live music five days a week.
