Breaking news! We have new BigXThaPlug music. The Dallas-born-and-bred rapper, whose career continues to skyrocket, announced a mixtape on Thursday, and it’s already out. The project, titled 6WA, features collaborations with fellow Texans Ro$ama and Yung Hood and even boasts a feature from hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg. The 14-track recording is the first major release from BigX’s 600 Entertainment, his Texas-centric label and collective, which he launched in 2023.

One listen to the mixtape, and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to coasting down a much smaller Central Expressway under a blazing Texas sun with the hometown ego you could only find in the ’90s during the Dallas Cowboys Triplets dynasty. But if there’s anything to be said about BigX, it’s that he’s determined to bring ostentatious pride back to Big D.

“I know you boys is down with 600 Entertainment and big things is goin’ on — I’m proud,” says Dallas rap legend The D.O.C. on a spoken-word track titled “A WORD FROM THE D.O.C. “You doin’ big things for the city.” He continues, “This is your time, this DFW time. … It’s time for us to get paid down here in the DFW.”

Editor's Picks

Tracks like “DOPEMAN” blend BigX’s identifiable tenor flow with playful melodies, and choral arrangements bleed through the entire work. Songs like “LIFE OF A GANGSTER” feature the wailing high cry of a distorted synthesizer, reminiscent of the work of Dr. Dre. The mixtape marks the ushering in of a new era of rap, heavily influenced by the genre’s forefathers, and positions BigXThaPlug as the pilot.

6WA is a departure from BigX’s last major work, the 2025 country album I Hope You’re Happy. But make no mistake, that success is still in the rearview mirror.

“How you think we competing?,” he raps on “FROM THE BOTTOM,” the midway point of 6WA. “You on the same bag, I just made me some millions off country.”

Ever since BigX broke into the music scene on a national scale in 2022 with his freshman album Amar, he’s remained firmly at the forefront of the music industry, doing it all while staying unapologetically Dallas. The Texas-sized star graces the April cover of Rolling Stone in a feature profile written by Dallas-based music journalist Eric Diep. The profile also features a photoshoot by iconic photographer David LaChapelle, as if BigX’s stature as an artist can’t be understated enough.

In May, he’ll return for a hometown performance for a celebratory birthday bash, marking his first performance in North Texas since 2024, after performances were canceled when he was arrested ahead of the I Hope You’re Happy album release party in Dallas.
