I have to admit, what I know about Antwone Fisher doesn’t surpass the 120 minutes from the film of the same name. He was born in a jail, went into the Navy, confronted childhood horrors and ended up turning a bleak life into something prominent and heroic. It’s not fair to sum up the man in just a few short words, so hopefully the man himself will give you the details. The Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center will feature Fisher as the keynote speaker for their inaugural Appetite for Advocacy Luncheon, a fund-raiser to help the center’s mission of aiding abused children. Fisher lived through an abusive childhood in foster care—and even homelessness—only to channel all that into the screenplay for Denzel Washington’s directorial debut.
