Even if you love your job, chances are you won’t be at it 75 years from now. No, most of us will put in our 40 or 50 years worth of work and retire quietly. That wasn’t the case for Loïs Mailou Jones, an artist who continued to paint and sketch well into her 80s and enjoyed a career in arts and education that spanned 75 years. Jones is known for her bold Haitian landscapes and African tribal art, but her equally rich textile designs and sketches are also part of a vast collection of work, some of which are now on display at The Women’s Museum, 3800 Parry Ave. Loïs Mailou Jones: A Life in Vibrant Color features paintings, textiles and drawings from the artist’s long career.
