A Most Fashionable Issue

The role of fashion in art is an interesting one. While certainly a medium all its own, the industry of fashion is also a bit insidious. We seek it out for inspiration, but if told the wrong way it can be a source of misguidance for many. Local-turned-Brooklyn artist K8 Hardy plays with that flux often in her work. You can expect nothing less from a new series of photographs titled “September Issues”, a nod at that mega-thick edition of fashion publications that churn the style machine’s cogs. It opens Saturday at the Dallas Contemporary alongside a much larger show: a two-room visual buffet by Dutch couple Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, whose work in fashion photography has stretched for 25 years. Their new show, “Pretty Much Everything,” is aptly named, and consists of roughly 300 works by the team known internationally for contributions to Vogue Paris, Purple Magazine, W Magazine and more. All artists will be in attendance. Hardy fans take note: K8 will present a non-fashion fashion show — just trust me on this one — Thursday, October 4, at the Dallas Contemporary’s annual fundraising event, Legendary.
