It’s day two of the Dallas Comedy Festival, the chuckle-rich lovechild of Dallas Comedy House. Tonight’s line-up features the bravest of all funnymen and -women, the stand-up comics.

There are no props or pals to help these folks. It’s just them, a microphone and the will to make you buckle with laughter. If you’ve wanted to figure out who’s really good in the local comedy scene, tonight’s lineup is a nice offering of our region’s finest.

The three headliners are all local famouses: Chelsea Hood got her start on a dare. She was waiting tables as a side gig when one customer offered her $100 to try stand-up. She snatched that money and started stalking open mic nights. After bombing a few times, she got her groove — now she has residencies all over the area. Linda Stogner co-won this paper’s Best Of Award in 2007, and, well, we ain’t an easy crowd. In addition to being a natural gem at the craft, Stogner has also been a nurturer for up-and-coming area comics with her pop-up club, Back Door Comedy. She’s toward the end of tonight’s bill, so give her your best drunken attention.

Dave Little is a staple at Hyena’s, the Improv and AllGood Cafe, but he’s also a tornado of hyphens. Singer-songwriter-poet-comic-voiceover artist … and let’s stop there, you get the picture. He can, and does, do everything. Tonight, however, he leaves his chimeral other selves at home and takes the stage as Dave Little, Stand-up Comic. He’s the tenth comic on tonight’s bill, so pace yourselves. Get tickets here (they’ll cost you $15 now and $20 at the door). After tonight the fest goes improv and sketch, so this is your last chance to abuse the buffet of local stand-up comedy.
