Word coming out of the film extravaganza known as SXSW is that the Evil Dead remake is pretty entertaining. And while we don’t doubt that the new flick from Fede Alvarez is great (it is, after all, produced by the original team of Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert) we do know that there is only one The Evil Dead on every film fan’s deserted-island list. The film, which gave way to sequels, video games, comic books and the cult of Ash, is the blueprint for low-budget horror, and a proper screening is always appreciated. That’s why we’re heading to the Texas Theatre this week, where fans can relive everyone’s favorite tree rape scene in big-screen 35mm. The evil kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 231 W. Jefferson Blvd. Tickets are $9.50, with discounts available. Call 214-948-1546 or visit thetexastheatre.com.
