Part-time Texan Quentin Tarantino has an eye for the impossibly hip. He also tends to tell his stories in strings of punchy musical vignettes, so you wind up with vivid isolated memories of lap dances in Austin dive bars (Death Proof), Mr. Blonde cool jiving with a gas tank (Reservoir Dogs) and of course the unattainable Mia Wallace cutting fresh with her body guard on the dance floor (Pulp Fiction). Those scenes have become part of our collective group think and parodied in every avenue of pop culture. Well, almost every one. This Friday a legion dancers have decided to give our favorite sneer-smiling director his due with a Quentin Tarantino Burlesque show at Club Dada. It’s billed as a night of “Music. Burlesque. Comedy. Drag. And Tarantino,” and we’ve been told that all sketches performed are ripped directly from movie scenes – well, not too directly. This is a burlesque show, not some snoozeville documentary. Hosted by Ms. Appaloosa Red, you’ll get a gander at your favorite cinematic nuggets, but told with fewer clothes and more foot fetish references. It all goes down at the Boiler Room (2723 Elm Street) and benefits The Fisher House, a non-profit that helps military families pay for room and board while visiting hospitalized loved ones. Tickets cost $8 and the show begins at 9 p.m.

Fri., Aug. 10, 9 p.m., 2012
