Though it’s still firmly rooted in the strip club scene, pole dancing has been in daylight for a while now. It may still raise some eyebrows when it shows up on the class schedule at an aerobics studio, but even the most pearl-clutching of housewives will admit that shimmying up a pole is a serious workout. Really, when is the last time you tried to climb anything using only your thighs? Never mind, don’t answer that. The Fourth Miss Texas Polestar starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Road, with contests in amateur and professional silks, fitness pole and double pole. The ultimate and professional pole competitions, the winner of which goes on to the 2014 Pole Championship Series, start at 8 p.m. Winners earn titles like Miss Flexibility, Miss Sexy and Miss Trixster. It might make you reconsider your weekly workout of some pushups and a quick jog. Visit misstexaspolestar.com.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?
At the Dallas Observer, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
