Amy Sedaris: Drop-out, Crafter And Cheese Baller Extraordinaire

As Jerri Blank, the facially contorted “boozer, user, and loser” from Strangers With Candy, Amy Sedaris taught us about many important things. Turtles shouldn’t eat “hot fruit” for one, and that if left untreated long enough, STDs can live in sedimentary layers and wreak havoc on your popular boyfriend. Luckily for us all, Sedaris didn’t stop after this television run, instead she started writing plays with her brother David under the name “The Talent Family” (my favorite is The Book Of Liz, about an Amish cheese ball maker); penned two craft-centric coffee table books for less traditional domestics (I Like You and Crafts for Poor People); and started a small cupcake and cheese ball business out of her New York apartment. Today, the few and lucky Dallasites who swooped in and got tickets for her performance at The Kessler, 1230 W. Davis St., will get to spend an evening in her company, which fluctuates adorably between charming and alarming.
