To those naysayers who said acrylic fibers couldn’t save the world, listen up. Thursday, we’ll gather around Dallas’ favorite fireplace to drink, munch on snacks and generally look like dorks, trussed up in ugly Christmas sweaters, and we’ll do it — dammit — because it’s our civic duty. The Ugly Xmas Sweater Party at Cosmo’s raises cash for an organization called New Friends New Life, a serious game-changer of a group. NFNL assists women and girls who are being sexually exploited or are caught in trafficking rings. The nonprofit provides financial assistance, education, job training, mental and physical health support and other key components to a successful life transition. Yeah, that’s huge. That’s what they do: They save women’s lives and help them become whole again. All you have to do to lend a hand with their work is to show up at Cosmo’s (1212 Skillman St.) on Thursday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in some hideous holiday knitware, fork over a $25 donation and enjoy beer, wine and food with other do-gooders. Hey, you just saved a life. Learn more at newfriendsnewlife.org.
