On Thursday night only, Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.) offers a screening of Plimpton!, a 2012 documentary on writer George Plimpton. His résumé is enviable: founding editor of The Paris Review, friend of Robert and John F. Kennedy, participated in a boxing match with Archie Moore. The life Plimpton led could be seen as absurd by some, but his life and his writing were intertwined, one informing the other. He was willing to put himself out there (sometimes literally, which you can see in the 1971 film, the Man on the Flying Trapeze), and wasn’t afraid of participating as a journalist. Filmmakers Tom Bean and Luke Poling have attempted to illustrate how his life was his work, and vice versa, via archival clips, interviews with friends and words from Plimpton himself.
