Besides burying a redcoat in a coffin filled with apple pie, fireworks may be one of the most patriotic ways to celebrate love for America. They’re also one of the cheapest. Basically, you just stand or sit outside on Independence Day and wait for explosions, then you look in their direction and hope it’s not a transformer blowing out or stray gunfire. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra heightens the experience of watching stuff blow up with its Old Fashioned Family Fireworks Picnic at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden (3220 Botanic Garden Blvd.). The orchestra will perform patriotic melodies while the nighttime sky lights up over their heads each night at 8:15 Wednesday through July 4. Anyone who likes watching colorful explosions can bring a blanket or lawn chairs and pack a picnic. Tickets start at $13. More information is at fwsymphony.org.
