Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has found himself in a bit of a pickle in recent weeks, forced to defend his own state’s universal health care system from conservative counterparts, who have noted certain undeniable similarities between Massachusetts’ 2006 reform and “Obamacare.” Defending himself on a recent episode of Fox News Sunday, Romney referred to the 2006 legislation as the “ultimate conservative plan,” arguing that comparing the two was like comparing a “racehorse and a donkey”–how folksy. Like every other politician with presidential aspirations, Romney’s currently pimping a book (No Apology: The Case for American Greatness) and would probably like to avoid any unnecessary controversy when he speaks at noon Thursday in the Khmer Pavilion of the Hilton Anatole Hotel, but interested parties on both sides of the aisle might find this the perfect opportunity to delve further into the subject (or ask about his recent altercation with Motown founder Berry Gordy’s grandson aboard an Air Canada flight). You’ll have to pay $75 for the luncheon, but considering the chance you’ll be able to watch Mitt nervously sweat pomade into his eyes, we think it’s a small price to pay. The Hilton Anatole is located at 2201 Stemmons Freeway. Call 972-386-6272 or visit ncpa.org to register.
