Most of the animals that we see in art these days seem to come in the form of cat photos on the internet, but the McKinney Avenue Contemporary is looking to change that. In Texas Critters, the MAC will play host to Texas art that features the state’s bounty of, well, critters. Art featuring birds, reptiles, bugs, and other natural flora and fauna will be on display, most of which was created by the renowned “Dallas Nine. This group of local painters, and sculptors that rose to national prominence in the mid-20th century, and some of the founding members, like Billy Hassell, are still working in the area. To round out your combination nature and art experience, head to the Square Gallery, where the MAC will host work from Guggenheim Award-winning painter and print-maker Janet Turner. Stop by the opening reception at 6 p.m. Saturday. More info at the-mac.org.
Sat., Sept. 6, 6 p.m.; Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Starts: Sept. 6. Continues through Oct. 25, 2014
