Artist Michele Mikesell may live and work not far from DECORAZONgallery in Oak Cliff, but she’s a nationally known painter represented by many notable galleries. Mikesell was raised without a television, and she gives this fact a lot of credit when it comes to her artistic development. At a young age, she became fairly accomplished in music before pursuing visual art academically. Portraying themes in her work that use the animal to discuss the human condition, Mikesell’s paintings pair whimsy with a shivering darkness to bring forth images which are entirely original, yet strike a chord of deep recognition and ultimately, a profound humor. An opening reception for her latest show, Eating Crow, takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday; the exhibition continues through June 3. DECORAZON Gallery is located at 417 N. Bishop Ave. Call 214-946-1003 or visit DECORAZONgallery.com.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: April 24. Continues through June 3, 2008

At the Dallas Observer, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $14,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
