When an injury forced violinist Hilary Hahn to cancel her upcoming performance at the Meyerson, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra selected Augustin Hadelich to fill her role. While Hahn leaves big shoes to fill, this young, fast-fingered virtuoso certainly has the pedigree required to do just that. Apart from the violinist’s celebrated technique and superb musicality, Hadelich is known as one of the world’s most exquisite interpreters of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Monumental in scale, delicate yet bristly and above all sublime, the Violin Concerto is a difficult hurdle to say the least. But with Hadelich at the helm, this night is sure to be as gorgeous as it is moving. Jaap van Zweden conducts an event that also includes Haydn’s Symphony No. 98 and the Bach-Webern Ricercar from “The Musical Offering,” the last of which sees a radical modern spirit embrace the fluidity of classicism. Catch performances at the Meyerson on September 25-27 at 7:30 PM, or Sunday, September 28 at 2:30 PM. Tickets start at $41. More information at mydso.com.
Thu., Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 28, 2:30 p.m. Starts: Sept. 25. Continues through Sept. 27, 2014
