There may be a little bit of ugly American in us, still holding a grudge against the entire French people based on a single high school experience with a Grenoble cafe employee who pretended not to understand the word “croissant” until we finally exhaled it out in a spiteful overly French-ified “Kwahh-hwahh!” banging our finger on the glass display case to point it out. But since then, we’ve come to realize that the French make food other than croissants and croque monsieurs, and some of it is fine eatin’. Apparently, this is especially true during Le Reveillon de Noel, a French Christmas Eve dinner. Lavendou Bistro Provencal will showcase ballotine of goose filled with chestnuts, chocolate souffle and other French dishes to celebrate, with lunch and tea service 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and dinner 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Lavendou, 19009 Preston Road, Suite 200.
