Just the possibility of uncovering a lost treasure, a bag of gold coins or a huge precious stone leads people of all ages and income brackets to spend hours down on their knees, digging in the dirt at different sites around the world. One of the most popular sites is the Crater of Diamonds, a state park located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, just 250 miles northeast of Dallas. But if you can’t make it all the way out to Arkansas this Mother’s Day weekend, Lone Star Park offers race patrons the chance to dig in the dirt. The first 500 female entrants (over the age of 21) at the Grandstand gates will have the chance to claim a diamond solitaire valued at $2,500 by digging with a spoon in a special area of the racetrack. Don’t call your Mom a diamond digger–just take her to Lone Star Park, 1000 Lone Star Parkway in Grand Prairie. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, and the first post is at 1:35 p.m. Call 972-263-7223 or visit lonestarpark.com for race schedules and details.
